Bible, Theology, History, Ethics, Practical Theology, Spirituality, and Religious Plurality
The Master of Divinity degree is the benchmark ministerial degree in graduate theological education. This program of study is designed to prepare students for various forms of ministry in church and
society. In recognition of the great diversity of students’ undergraduate preparation and vocational goals, the M.Div. curriculum is flexible, allowing freedom in areas of concentration, and focusing on the integration of learning across all aspects of study. Concentrations of
elective courses in Black Church Studies, Pastoral Theology and Pastoral Counseling, and pre-Ph.D. studies, as well as a Women’s Studies
Certificate, are also available within the structure of the general M.Div. program.
Dani Loving Cartwright
Regional Minister & President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the SouthwestDani Loving Cartwright (MDiv '84) serves as the Regional Minister & President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest. Dani serves alongside eight Area Ministers and coordinates the ministry shared among 435 congregations and 1250 clergypersons. Her education at Brite Divinity School helped prepare her for this particular work in stimulating thought and conversation about God's loving presence in the world and the challenging- and opportune- place of the Church as a messenger of God's grace and love made known through Jesus Christ. Classes that were formative include: Psalms with Toni Craven; Theology with David Gouwens; Ethics with William Longsworth; Pastoral Care with Howard Stone. One class, in particular, that helped in conversation and integration was a Bio-medical Ethics class taught in conjunction with TCU Nursing Department and the Fort Worth Osteopathic Medical School and led by Brite professors and physicians. The deep conversations with peers, as we made this journey together, certainly helped to form who I am in ministry.
