Rev. Dr. Stephen V. Sprinkle, Ph.D. Dr. Sprinkle is Director of Field Education and Supervised Ministry, and Professor of Practical Theology at Brite Divinity School, Fort Worth, Texas, a post he has held since 1994. An ordained Baptist minister, he is the first openly gay scholar in the history of the Divinity School, and the first open and out LGBTQ person to be tenured there. His graduate education includes: M.Div., Yale University Divinity School, and Ph.D., Duke University Graduate School. Dr. Sprinkle is the author of three books and numerous articles on theology, church polity, and LGBTQ studies. His new book is entitled, Unfinished Lives: Reviving the Memories of LGBTQ Hate Crimes Victims, Resource Publications, 2011, and won the 2012 International Silver Medal for Gay/Lesbian Non-Fiction at the Independent Book Publishers Awards (the IPPYs), awarded in New York City. He is a member of the Association of Theological Field Education, and the Academy of Religious Leadership. In 2008, he received the prestigious Catherine Saylor Hill Award for Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship and Service by vote of his colleagues at Brite Divinity School, the only Field Educator ever to receive the award. He also received the coveted Brite Award for Creative Teaching and Scholarship in 2010. Dr. Sprinkle was named ’Hero of Hope’ for 2010 by the Cathedral of Hope (UCC) in Dallas, Texas, and currently serves as the Cathedral’s Theologian in Residence. In 2013, he was named an official Blogger for the Huffington Post’s Religion page.
