December 7, 2009 Greetings from the Pastoral Care and Training Center at Brite Divinity School: The Brite Pastoral Care and Training Center is in a period of transition. On Friday, December 18, 2009 we will suspend our operations for the near future. We will not be receiving referrals or seeing clients for a brief time. In this interim you may contact the Pastoral Counseling and Education Center (PCEC) at 214.526.4525 or 1.800.340.7557. PCEC has several locations throughout the metroplex and you may find them on the web at www.pcec-counseling.org. Other counseling resources in the Fort Worth area can be located by contacting the United Way Resource Directory (dial 211), the Mental Health Association Warm Line (817.546.7806), or MHMR of Tarrant County (817.866.2465). We appreciate your support of the Pastoral Care and Training Center at Brite and wish you well on your journey. We will again offer counseling services and a training program as part of a joint effort in the future. When services resume, we will let you know. The Pastoral Care and Training Center was established by Brite Divinity School in 1968 to provide service to the community, training to pastors, and research in the field of pastoral theology and pastoral counseling. Primarily working from narrative and solution-focused approaches to psychotherapy, the Center specializes in short-term care. Most counseling at the Center is completed within 10 sessions, although some counselees benefit from more than 10 sessions. Services are confidential to the limits of the law, and the Center follows the ethical guidelines of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC). Most counselors at the Center have served previously as parish pastors, chaplains, pastoral counselors, or secular psychotherapists. They are now pursuing advanced training at Brite Divinity School. All counselors at the Center receive individual and group supervision each week from certified and/or licensed faculty. Because our counselors are in advanced training, all counseling sessions are videotaped for purposes of supervision and consultation within the Center. AAPC accredits the Center as both a training center and a service center. This means the Center is carefully and regularly evaluated for performance, based on national standards. In 2003, the Center received the Distinguished Program Leadership Award from AAPC. Brite Divinity School is a seminary affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Texas Christian University. It fosters ecumenical and interfaith relationships in and beyond the Fort Worth community.
