Good Friday prayer by Master of Divinity student Remi Shores.
God, every year we wonder why your son had to die. We’ve come up with a lot of answers, some better than others. We’re thankful for your help with the post-Easter work of theologizing the death of the incarnate Christ. But today, on the day of his death, we do not have any answers. We only have questions. And the questions are deep, gut-wrenching cries from the darkest parts of our hearts. WHY?! Why this? Why that death, in that way? Why so much pain and suffering? God, what the f*#@? We know that you can hold our questions and our curses. What we don’t know is why our Lord had to die. Why, God? Why?
