October 14, 2021

Brite Divinity School is pleased to announce that Rev. Dr. Susan Moudry will join the Brite as the Director of Lay and Continuing Education. She succeeds Dr. Eilene Theilig who retired in July 2021. The Office of Lay and Continuing Education is responsible for a variety of programs including the Stalcup School of Theology for the Laity, Ministers Week, Beyond Brite, and Flourishing in Ministry.

Dr. Moudry received her M.Div. from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and her Ph.D. in the History of Christianity from Baylor University. Her research interests include American Methodism in the nineteenth century, as well as the intersection of religion and politics. Dr. Moudry has published articles with Methodist History, Pneuma, and contributed a piece on women’s suffrage for The UMC’s General Commission on the Status and Role of Women. She is an ordained elder in The UMC and has served churches in a variety of roles. Rev. Dr. Susan Moudry currently serves as Coordinator of Clergy and Lay Leadership Excellence for the Western Pennsylvania Conference of The United Methodist Church.

Rev. Dr. Susan Moudry looks forward to engaging the community, imagining new possibilities, and building on the strong programming already occurring. Bridging the academy and church is at the heart of her calling, so she is excited about the ways this work will allow her to live into that call more fully.
