Asian Studies Program announcement: Buddhist-Womanist talk

April 25, 2011

I cordially invite you and your students to a talk by Dr. Charles Hallisey on Tuesday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. in Palko 130. His talk, sponsored by the Asian Studies Program, is titled "Womanism and the Interpretive Possibilities of Buddhist Studies in the American University." Dr. Hallisey is a scholar of Theravada Buddhism at Harvard University who will be on campus from Tuesday through Sunday. He will be here serving as a facilitator of the Womanist-Buddhist workshop–"Compassion and Justice: Buddhist Resources for Womanist Reflection"–that Alice Walker will be attending and that has been organized by my colleague Melanie Harris. Melanie and I hope that you’ll be able to join us and would appreciate it if you would encourage your students to attend.
