Join the Brite community on Thursday, March 19 at 6pm in Bass Conference Center for “Reading Gender with the Maccabees” featuring Dr. Richard J. Bautch and Dr. Kelley Coblentz Bautch.

Richard J. Bautch holds a PhD in biblical studies from the University of Notre Dame and is Professor of Humanities at St. Edward’s University in Austin. He has published on subjects ranging from the Psalms to the prophet Isaiah. His most recent book, with Mark Laskowski, is Dating Biblical Texts to the Persian Period: Discerning Criteria and Establishing Epochs (Tübingen: Mohr Siebeck, 2019).

Kelley Coblentz Bautch, PhD, is Professor of Religious and Theological Studies at St. Edward’s University. Her research and publications concern early Jewish literature including pseudepigraphal and apocalyptic texts. She currently works on a commentary on 1 Maccabees which offers a postcolonial, feminist reading of this text for the Wisdom Series.
