On Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Brite will host a public lecture with Dr. Steve Friesen entitled Roman Corinth and Roman Philippi: A Comparison of Colonies.

Steve Friesen is the Louise Farmer Boyer Chair in Biblical Studies at the University of Texas Austin.  Beginning with his revised dissertation, Twice Neokoros:  Ephesus, Asia, and the Cult of the Flavian Imperial Family, Professor Friesen has worked to texture discussions of the social world of early Christians through engaging material culture. His publications also include Imperial Cults and the Apocalypse of John:  Reading Revelation in the Ruins, three co-edited volumes on Corinth and material culture (Urban Religion in Roman Corinth; Corinth in Context: Comparative Studies on Religion and Society; Corinth in Contrast: Studies in Inequality), and several articles on inequality in the Pauline churches.
