Dr Rita Nakashima Brock, Rel. M,, M.A., Ph.D., is the Sr. Vice President and Director of the Shay Moral Injury Center at Volunteers of America. She is one of the early and leading voices in education and research about military Moral Injury which the Shay Center site defines as: “an affliction of conscience, identity, and meaning because of harm we cause, witness, or experience from others.” Dr. Brock was the founding Director of the Soul Repair Center at Brite Divinity School on the campus of TCU in Fort Worth. The author of several books, she is the co-author of Soul Repair: Recovering from Moral Injury after War, Beacon Press, 2012.The Shay Center and the Soul Repair Center co-sponsor the webinars offered at this site September-May. In this webinar she will describe the encouraging results of the ReST program for veterans. With funds from Volunteers of America, Dr. Brock organized a team of 8 experts in March 2017, co-chaired by Drs Jonathan Shay and James Monroe of the Boston VA, to create RST. Professor Tim Barth at TCU directed a research team to test the effectiveness of the program during its pilot two years.
